I live in Indiana Northern part just about 2 miles from Michigan line..This spiders over all length from end of leg to end of leg was around 3 inches..I was thinking this was a wolf spider cuz it's eyes are in a V shape but could you please let me know for sure ..Thanks

Good Morning Attached is a picture of a spider which was in our garage in Portsmouth NH. It was approx 3 to 3.5 inches leg tip to leg tip. Some say it looks like a Brown Recluse but i thougjht it was to big. Can you advise me as to what it might be.

Hi. I'm from central New Jersey. I saw this huge spider on our recycling bin outside. The attached pictures were taken at night. In the morning I found the spider hanging by a single thread hugging a roundish white sack of eggs. Fearful this thing maybe a Hobo or Brown Recluse spider I had to destroy the eggs and spider with it. Another smaller spider similar to this one, I assume the male, was spotted but escaped. These things were much bigger then I'm use to seeing, I would guess the body was maybe 3 inches and the legs spread as wide as my hand. My kryptonite is spiders and ever since seeing these I've been very nervous for myself and my kids. Please let me know if these species are dangerous and what I can do? Thank you!

Hi Glen, I live in CT and I was out in my yard today near a woodpile when I saw the spider that is in the attached pictures. I spent some time googling spiders today, but I couldn't find any that looked like the one I found. Do you have any ideas as to what it might be? Its body is about 3/4" long. Thank you, Becky

Hi there - We're in RI and found this HUGE spider in my bathroom - we brought it outside (by we I mean my husband) and took a photo. It was big - about as big as my 6 year old's hand. It attacked the jar we had it in pretty vigorously and was jumping all around. Is this one dangerous? THANK YOU! Kerry

Hi there. Great site! I found this guy in the garage this morning. Snapped a couple of pictures while he was on the cold floor being quite sluggish. I 99% positive it's a nursery spider. I wish the head-on pic came out better. The detail in the eye arrangement is a little fuzzy, but you can definitely tell the first row is curved back and the second row center ones a larger than the others. Keep up the informative site!

Hello, My son and I are fascinated by your site. My husband thinks I’m a little weird. My son found this spider on the wall behind a chair. We live in Thomasville, NC. I’m pretty sure it isn’t a brown recluse, but I would like to know what it is. I didn’t get close enough to see the eyes. I’m pretty sure that the brown recluse doesn’t have any markings on the abdomen. We did enjoy surfing through the pics on your site. Brooke

Hi, I came across your website while searching online trying to identify a spider which recently bit me in the backyard of my home. Its web was set up alongside my pool, in the dark on the underside of the waterfall rocks. The home was a foreclosure until we moved in last week, and the pool is filled with algae, tadpoles, dead bugs, etc. I got bit because the spider got sprayed with my power washer and he landed on my knee and bit me. I took a photo of it and emailed it to my friend who used to work in pest control throughout the country, and he told me it looks like a Brown Recluse, or maybe the Arizona variety which is a Desert/Arizona Recluse. I started reading about them online and they seem to be pretty deadly, but I can’t tell for sure if this spider is in fact a Recluse or not. Can you take a look at the pictures and let me know what this might be? He was HUGE – the legs had a span of probably 3-4”, and the body was probably about 1 ½” to 2” long. Thank in advance for your help!! James

Hi, your site has been very helpful! I think I have identified these spiders, but could you verify? I feel bad killing something that's not going to harm me, so if they are just wolf spiders, I'll leave them be! I haven't ever seen one the color of the second (darker) one, is it the same species? the last picture is in there for size - that is a horse shoe just above the spider on the wall. These were taken on the side of my house. I also have another question. We live in the woods, and have two dogs. Do spiders pose any threat to dogs? Or do they usually leave them alone? Found this spider on my side porch early in the morning. To give reference the ware staple is ~1” at it’s widest point so the spider is 3-4” in length. I thought it interest how the front-paired legs are held together. A few years ago we had one of these (smaller version) on the neck of a guest. She obviously freaked out but it did not bite her. Can you tell me the genus/species? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dave

I found these in my back yard a couple of years ago I have pics of the male and the female. I have been trying to figure out what kind of spider this is, I have come close but the size is never right, they formed about a 3 inch circle, if you can do this that would be great. I have a few other pics of them, if you want those too let me know I will send them to you, and there were 3 males and one female at least that I saw and have never seen them since, have a nice or night whenever you get this. Thank you, Geoff

Hi, This morning, coming back from getting my newspaper, I decided to get rid of the web on my Golden Globe Arborvitae thinking it was mites. I tried pushing it aside with my newspaper, and to my surprise, it just seemed to stick together. I then decided to remove it with my fingers. Some white webbing came loose, that I flung away. I then saw an egg sac, that I had not seen fall about an inch. I took a second to decide what to do...destroy it or what? In that second, the spider that I now know is the mother jumped and retrieved her egg sac...wrapping herself around it. About an inch away, the male appeared. I was very startled, but went to get my camera:) I have taken wonderful pictures of orb weavers in our yard, but I didn't know what this spider was. I obviously found it on your site. The mother disappeared with her egg sac deeper into the shrub. The male stayed awhile longer, and then he too vanished deep within the shrub.  I felt very bad after reading about them, that I had destroyed the webbing. Will she rebuild the web to hold the sac? Thanks for your site and if you should have time to answer my question:) Here are the two pictures.

Hi. I have this spider species in my backyard and it comes up to my back door and railing, near the outside light at nighttime. It spans about three - four inches with the leg length. The body is thin and appears flattish. The whole spider lays flush with whatever object it is on, it doesn't seem to be hairy at all. My research says possibly water / fishing spider, but some pictures I have seen of these don't look like the one I have. We do have a covered pool nearby, but I've never seen the spider in there. What is it? Is it harmful? THANKS! ~Laura
