31 July, 2010:
I've been looking for an identification for the spider in the attached pictures. We have no idea what it is and it scared my youngest daughter. She calls it the "Root of All Evil" spider. Fairly creepy looking, I must say. Although I didn't see it myself, except from the pictures she took, I'm told it was about an inch long (or so). It was good enough to pose for these pictures but it got excited and took off running when she blew on it. It was captured and taken outside where, I suppose, it was released. I learned about this after the fact.
We are in California, USA, East and a bit North of Sacramento in the Sierra-Nevada foothills. Elevation is 1600 feet. If you have any information on this type of spider then we would appreciate you dropping us a note.
Thanks
George

Hi Glen,
Thought you might like to see another closeup of an argiope. It's the standard yellow and black one. This one was probably over 3" across the legs and is one of the largest I've seen. You're welcome to post it on your website if you'd like.
Thanks,
JohnClick for a larger view |

Hello Glen,
Love your site. It has helped in ID'ing some of the spiders I've photographed.
I'm attaching
- An argiope having lunch.
- A black widow
- Maybe a wolf spider. It was really enormous. It was larger than a sparrow. It would have been good to have positioned a ruler or something near the beast, but I wasn't going to get that close to it.
- An unknown spider
Cheers,
George,

Hi,
My name is John HeideckerI and live in NY state. I photographed this spider in my bathroom sink. I beleive it to be a European House Spider-perhaps a male.
I checked the Golden Guide and the latin name is Tegenaria ( if its what I think it is ).
I was hoping you can help me. Thanks and I enjoyed your site.
Best Regards

Hi Glen,
Here are the 3 photos of the female Sydney Funnel Web I mentioned in my
previous email to you.
She comes from the Central Coast of NSW, near Erina, and is a fine
specimen of the species.
Hope you can use them.
Regards and thanks for the previous referrals. Some have been good, some
have been flops.

7 September, 2009:
(feel free to post it if you want - and to remove my site name if it's against your policy)
I have seen this large spider in Borneo, about 800m high, under the roof of a shed, close to a waterfall and a little lake that goes with it; it is huge, I would say the length from end of front leg to end of back leg is about 15cm (6"); it looks somewhat like one of your giant fishing spiders, but Borneo is in Asia, and I think I read these
are only in South America.
Do you know this lady?
Thank you

Thought you might be able to use these to add to your collection.
I noticed a dark spot in the middle of my lawn one morning while I was getting ready for work.
Upon closer examination, this is what I found. I confirmed my suspicions after checking out your very comprehensive web site.
Thank you
Lou M
