Reply: Nice photos, thanks. Male spiders have enlarged sexual glands on the ends of their pedipalps and this is the main way to tell male from female. In some species like the southern house spiders the male is completely different from the female and in some a lot smaller. Top photo is Pisaurina mira - glen

I wondered if I could add to your spider photos lol. Wolf spider, full grown, in the closer photo, you can see that it’s lost an eye. This specimen was quite large, the last abdomen part having a slightly larger diameter than a quarter. I was wondering how to tell male from female in this kind of spider.

We were watching TV late last night when this ran into the bedroom. I've caught similar wolf spiders in my house before, but never one this big. The body was barely under 1 inch in length, the leg span was 2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. I really thought it was a tarantula until I got a closer look. I couldn't identify it further than to say it's a wolf spider. There was one on the Bug Guide spider eye arrangements chart I use that resembled it, but it was labeled as an unknown genus. It's backside is so large I'm guessing it's pregnant? I let it go in the woods. I really need to figure out where these things are getting in at, I have a small child who frequently rolls out of bed and sleeps on the floor. My landlord just wants to use pesticide which I'm not happy about. -Laura Lee All pictures taken by me in Southern NJ and free for anyone to use.

These are just some pictures of a jumping spider we found on the car while we were out today. They turned out well so I thought I'd share. She (he?) was roughly dime sized and eating what I presume was her mate at the time. I let her go in my garden. All pictures taken by me in southern NJ and free for anyone to use. -Laura Lee

Reply: This is a female southern house spider and it is venomous as are all spiders. It is not known to be dangerous to us though - glen

Do you know that this spider can be and is it venomous?

Glen, Here are a few more. Hope you can use them. I'm not a spider expert so I'm guessing what they are. First one - Wolf spider with babies. Second one - Jumping spider. Third one - Some kind of Jumping spider I have a few more I can send later. I love macro photography and shoot a lot of spiders but I don't know the names of most of them. Jerry

Glen, I spotted this spider during a night hike near the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve in Ecuador. The length of the body was about 1.5ˇ, and fore leg tip to rear leg tip about 3ˇ. The bright coloring certainly indicated ˇstay awayˇ to me. The legs appeared slightly blue under my LED flashlight.. The body is a reddish orange. Thanks, John

Hello, This little tarantula ran across my toe at a rest area in Taos, New Mexico. He was so cute that I had to have a photo shoot and I thought I'd share. Do you happen to know of the time of year when tarantulas migrate in SE Colorado? Thanks and have a great day! Kelly in Denver, Colorado

Hi Glen - I just found this guy scrambling away when I was raking up some leaves near my house. It looks like a Brown Recluse ... what do you think ? I live in the Clearwater Florida area and I guess we shouldn't see these things but I keep hearing stories otherwise. I usually wouldn't worry but with a 6 month old baby I now find myself worrying about everthing :-). Can you tell me what you think ? Thanks, Tony

Here are a few pictures of some spiders that I took. One is a Marbled Orb Weaver Spider that I took on November 11, 2010. She was coming down out of the tree on a single thread blowing in the wind and almost blew into my mom, my sister and her Fiance who was holding their 15 month old daughter, as they were walking by on the sidewalk. My sister came running back in to get me, of course I grabbed my camera. This other spider is unknown to me. I have seen several in the house and would like to know what kind they are. I live in Northern Illinois. Thank You. Amy T.
