23 September, 2007:
Hi Glen, I hope you’re ok and everything good in your lives! This is
a VERY INTERESTING EPISODE in my Insects Collection or Diaries!!!
JAJAJAJJ! The Little Giant Fishing Spider, The Agripole and the
Gecko was very hungy... Is like murphies laws!!! When I don't have
those pets, in my house I usually found sometimes cockroaches,
little roaches or butterflies.. Now that I have those pets that need
this food I CANT FOUND ANYTHING!!! Even in my backyard!! Jjajaja!
Well, te fact is that this morning I was hunting some bugs to feed
my pets and I just find a Kind of Black ANTS Really big that have a
very big tooths and always open, when they close it suddenly, you
can hear like a “CLICK”.... AMAZING!!!! 2 months ago I try to feed
my pets with that and no one even get closer!!!! They know that this
Ants species are dangerous!!!! Ajjajaj! Well..... The fact is that I
found a nest of little black and yellow wasps (you’ll see it in the
photos) It was a really small nest of wasps But it hve like 15
wasps. I get it in to a mayonnaise glass pot and after I got it I
think: “GREAT!!!! I’M A GENIUS..... NOW HOW CAN I DISTRIBUTE THE
WASPS IN TO THE 3 AQUARIUMS”????? Well.... I remember my Discovery
and Animal planet programs jajajajaj and I remember that the FLY’S
get sleep when they get cold! I see this also in a Magician Devilled
Tricks!! I think that this could work with wasps!!!! In fact I put
the pot in the freezer and in less than 2 minutes they sleep like
babes!!!!
AMAZING! I distribute the wasps in the aquariums and Guess What????
The Gecko was so hungry that eat 2 of them but with much
difficulty!!!! He is so small but make so many noises when they got
it and smack his own head against the aquariums walls to help to
trought it!!!! It have 3 mores but I think that the Gecko is already
full or is waiting for the wasps get tired to eat it!!! The Argiope
Spider... Instantly that I point the sleeps wasps in to the NET,
instantly when the 4 wasps that I put carefully over the spider net,
SHE the spider run like a thunder in to each one, make a sac around
each wasps, and when she get all like a mummy involved in a sac she
start to eat one by one!!!!!
SEE THE PHOTOS!!! It was amazing too!! While the Giant Fishing
Spider go to one wasp when it was sleeping, check it in... And when
the wasp awake the spider loose every interest in it!! I don't know
if she is not hungry (she eat a little cockroach 2 days ago) or if
that she knows that the wasp can be poisoned!! By the way, I note
her (the spider) so nervous.... More than the usual.... I use to
move her with a stick and she move to a medium velocity, but know,
when I touch her with the stick, run away like crazy, jump and also
get in to the water!!! Is this normal?? She can be in a kind of
Change Skin time and cause of this is so nervous??? I don't think
that it can be cause about food, because she eat more frequently
than the others and she eat really big bugs that I found it every
time!!! And a last question and Thanks for your always great
answers.... The argiope as I told you some days before, make an egg
sac, but the sac still there.... (you’ll note it at the background
of this spider photo), I know that you told me that the sac could be
there for many time, even for a year waiting for the perfect season
to birth the baby spiders... But.... How can It doesn't screw?? I
mean.. I note that the spider doesn't care about the sac and never
is closer to bring it warm or some things... Liquid or I don't
know.... This sac can be still full of live without any care of the
spider??? Is amazing too!!!! Thanks guy and I hope that you enjoy
the photos!!!! Well friends..... I hope that you are ok and take
care of you!!!!Best
regards and hope to hear about you soon... |

September, 2007:
I send you others detailed photos of the AGRIPOLES and other that
show how they live togheter very close without any problem and in
the background you’ll can see the BIG YELLOW EGG SAC!
My observation is that they eat some little, they eat a butterfly 2
weeks ago but the othetrs bugs that I put it inside to feed it they
doesnt care! Also I note that the bigone, doesnt spend energy!! She
doesnt move for days! Even you shake the acuarium or the bugs for
food gate traped in the net! While the small one doesnt eat but is
always in move! Is so nervous! Gustavo |

I send
you others Interesting Photos about the new ones that I found today!
They loved to be climb upside down! And cause of this I get great
shoots of the downside of the spiders, maybe this could help to YOU
THE EXPERTS to determine wich one is male, female or if both are of
a same sex!!!!!
The smaller I cant take perfects shoots of the abdomen because she
was more far from my zoom!!! But I hope this pics can help to
identify it!! Gustavo |

WHEN I
ARRIVE TO HOME LIKE 6:00 PM I FOUND THAT THE BIG ONE MAKE LIKE A
MASTER PIECE!!!! I’M NOT SURE IF IT IS A EGG SAC BUT IS LIKE AN
SCULPTURE!!!!!!!!! NOTE THAT I DON'T FEED IT YET!!! I PUT A BUTTERLY
IN THE AQUARIUM EARLY IN THE MORNING AND WHEN I ARRIVE TO BEACH IN
THE AFTERNOON THE BUTTERFLY STILL FLYING IN THE AQUARIUM LIKE
ANYTHING HAPPENS!!! SO I SUPPOSE THAT THE SAC IS NOT A FOOD SAC OR
NOTHING LIKE THAT!!! |

Glen, Please help us ID this beauty. We live in Harlingen Texas. What
I
have looked at so far has led me to think it may be an arigope
argentata or other orb weaver, but we don't know for sure and
would
really appreciate some assistance.
Thanks

Hi, I live in south Florida, Boynton Beach and I noticed this spider
sitting on its orb web near my house. I think it identifies as an
Argiope Lobata but I am forwarding the pictures for your collection.
If you have time, would appreciate knowing if I was right. Thanks,
Al

I love finding different spiders or bugs. Thanks for
the excellent pictures on your site. I didn't know what this
was. If you like you can add it to your Silver Argiope
pictures. I live in San Diego, so they must love this area. I
have found some other great spiders this last summer. I will
start
taking pictures of them and comparing them to what you have.
Thanks again for the cool site.

Hi
I live in San Diego and have lots of these in the yard. They are
very
specific about what plant they hang out on and their egg case is
a
rectangular pouch that is the same color as the plant they are
on. They have
approx. a 2 inch leg span.
Thanks
Jim

Hi Glen, Is this spider just a yellow
and black garden spider? I've been trying to find a picture online
that might match this one's body but haven't found any that have
the same "crown like" shape. Curios if it might be something else.
Thank you!

Hi, I took some pics of this spider to share with you. I read
on your site that
these are mostly in Australia and New Guinea, I'm in San Diego,
California, just
wondering how common these are in the U.S., thanks for your time.

Hi Glen,
This guy has been in front of our office window and has gotten
pretty huge!
Then today, he got small again BUT now there's this huge sack (maybe
eggs?)
he made. Is he an orb spider? We called him Roy (Orbison)
Thanks,
Mark
