Comments: Excellent photographs and interesting and informative text. I
was recently on a business trip to Manly and while sitting on the
balcony of my 7th floor hotel room facing the beach, a 'bird-eating
spider' showed up and scared me to death! At first I
thought it was a wolf spider, but its size was too big for that. Only
after checking your web site did I feel that I had identified it.
Needless to say, I abandoned sitting on my balcony after dark for the
remaining 3 days of my business trip. Sorry, your web site
is beautiful and informative, but spiders creep me out, I have a totally
primal reaction - snakes don't do that to me, only spiders.
Very good site!!

Comments: I photod this spider today. I'd love to know what it is.
It was on the side of our old storage cabin. I'll probably have
nightmares about it. I put the JPEG here for you to view:
http://www.fishgeek.com/pics/eric/04/bemidji/spider.jpg Please
e-mail me if you have any idea what it is. I'd guess it was 3" to 4" in
length. It was a big one!

Comments: Yesterday I noticed this weird spider among my
daylilies--very long, black and yellow abdomen, black and white legs.
The web had a vertical line of bold-face, white x's. Very nearby was a
much smaller, much less colourful spider. A bit of research in one of my
insect books suggested Argiope aurantia, so I went to google and started
looking. Your photos convinced me--though I didn't see many from
Canada...

Comments: I live in palmdale Ca. and apparantly we have Solifugids' here
in our area. I saw the photos taken with our American Troops of the
Solifugids or "Sunspiders" taken in Iraq. The one our dog was playing
with in our bathroom was just like those only smaller thank goodness.
Anyway, thank you for your web-site. It made it possible to identify
this "thing".

Comments: Hey this site is cool but i wanted to know if any of you fight
spiders. I catch brown and black widows and see if any other spiders are
tough enough to beat them and i have yet to find any that can beat the
widow spider. E-mail me if you do any spider fighting.
Reply: I think that's rather cruel and not to be encouraged.

Comments: I work for the Department of Agriculture and I happened upon
your site looking for some Olios sp. pictures. I noticed an entry that
was miss-identified and thought I'd sent you a quick e-mail. Someone
from San Francisco sent you a picture on 20 February 2002 of a spider he
found in his bathtub. That spider is a Zoropsis spinimana. It's new to
the Bay Area (12 yrs or so) I wrote an article about it in one of our
newsletters. If you're interested, go to sccagriculture.org and click on
newsletters. The article is on the last page of our March 2003
newsletter.
