American web site are woefully lacking. There were only 3 spiders listed at a
California college site! Thank you and the Australian Museum for more compreshesive
information. Do you have any pictures of a house spider. We have lots of brown recluse
spiders in Missouri, but I wasn't sure what the house spiders looked like. I wanted to
compare. G'day mate!

your site and found GREAT pictures. I am going to fax the information over to her tomorrow.

Comments: HELP! I'm trying to identify a particular
spider, & after hours of research, am no closer than when I started! If you can help, it will
be MUCH appreciated! Description:Medium grey color spider with total body size of more than 1/2
inch, with overall size of 1 1/2 inches, large diamond-shaped body, lighter grey diamond marking
on back, darker grey on abdomen, small grey head, leg segment close to the body was thin and dark
grey with thick furry lighter color outer segments. Ever heard of one of these? It bit my 14
year old son on the inside elbow edge, and in 4 hours it was already turning black, with a large
(1/3 of the way down his arm) reddened area, a raised area approximately the size of a dime, the
entire arm was swollen,& he felt an immediate burning sensation when stung. By the next day (18
hours), after being hospitalized, given massive antibiotics, anti-inflammatories (solumedrol),
benadryl and lots of pain medication (& I don't know what else, the bite seemed to have (more or
less) localized in the area to about the size of a quarter with a definite white spot on top. A
surgeon excised it and copious amounts of exudate drained out, after which we could see a large
"empty" area inside the arm. He is now healing well, but I hate to think what might have
happened if I had not taken him to the emergency room as soon as I did! Enough info? THANKS!!!

searching through several book stores and libraries, I finally decided to see what I could find

What I found was your web page, which has produced far more information for me than almost
anything else. You have made my life much easier, and educated me on several facts at the same
time.
Ananasi, by the way, are fictitious werespiders, one half human and one half spider. I could
not have proceeded as far as I have without your assistance. Thanks to you for your wonderful
