Comments: We found a large brown, somewhat hairy spider in our bathroom (Southeast PA, USA), and we needed to know whether it was potentially harmful to family (inc. pets). We are pretty sure it was a female wolf spider, at least 35mm, it was not a recluse spider (IMHO).
We thought it was a wolf spider and your pictures seemed to support our initial guess.
You'll be happy to know we trapped it in a box and removed it to outdoors without injury to us or spider.
Great site. Thanks!
Cheers,
TJM

Comments: Thank you for having so much information on Spiders. I thought that I might
have been bitten by one and thought that it might had been a Brown recluse.
I had trapped the spider to take to someone who would know and then
I thought about looking on the net. I found you. Yes it was a brown reciuse and
I don't think that it bitten me.( I have no signs). I think that it brushed up against
my foot. We have a two year old and we want to make our home safe for her. We needed to know
what type of spider it is. Now we will take action to make it safe for her to play in her house.
Thank you again. (I know that spiders have a place on God's Earth but it is not in my house.)

Comments: You guys are really fantastic!!! I was just searching for some information about spiders because we are learning about them in our classroom. My children are a little younger....we're in year one. We have talked about what we already know about spiders and next we need to decide what we would like to find out about these amazing creatures. You must know soooooo much about spiders now - with all that research you've conducted!! Maybe you could help us out! I'll get back to you soon with our school e-mail address. Meanwhile, keep up the good work!! Oh, and by the way, it really is the best page I've seen all year! Bye!!

Comments: I came across your interesting site while searching for
information on Black Widow Spiders. I just killed two adult
female widows, both guarding their egg sacs. One was in the
corner of my living room window (outside), the other was in the
house in a dark corner of the laundry room. I have a natural
dislike for poisonous spiders and am glad I only have two species
locally to worry about; the black widow and brown recluse. I'm
glad I don't have any of those nasty funnel spiders I saw in your
pages. ugggh!

Comments: Thank you for your useful spider pages. I am searching for info
on the treatment of spider bites in the long term, because
I know someone who was bitten some time ago by an unseen spider.
Thought by the doctor to be a white tail spider bite, the symptoms
are still causing concern. If you would let me know of someone who
could tell me (in ordinary language, because I have no medical
background whatever), what can be done safely to ease the symptoms
of these toxins, I would be very grateful.
The information provided on these spider pages is some of
the most interesting and useful material that I have encountered
in my search so far.
Best Regards,
Karen Joyce.

doing with the net. I was looking for information on the "Recluse"
spider after my daughter was bitten by one. Then my youngest "8"
saw what I was reading and really got into it. Thank you for
showing a little girl a new way to look at one of Gods most
extraordinary creatures.
