Comments: I love spiders. I love everything about them. Poisonous spiders I don't like. Wolf Spiders are my favorite! Potter is the reason I love spiders. It's a mini beanie baby spider. The tag says it's name is Spinner but that's not a good name. My sister Emily had a party at her school. Chelse Owens handed out beanie babies to the class. But my sister ended up with Potter. She liked it but when she got home she threw it in the drawer. After vacation I had found a spider. I had to leave it at the campsite with it's egg sac. When I got home sad, I wanted Emily to find a spider to replace that other one. So she searched and found Potter. She knew those times when she threw it in the drawer. After she gave it to me I fell in love with it. I kept carrying it around but never threw it. I still carry it around today. I kinda felt sad what Emily did to Potter. But she likes it to but doesn't carry it around!

My friend's daughter is working and living in Australia this year. What a grand adventure! She told her mother that Australia has HUGE spiders called redbacks and hunters. I thought she must be exaggerating when she said some were the
size of a hand. With the exception of the rather flimsy and fragile daddy long legs, our spiders in Canada are about 1/2" long, tops. So of course I had to find out if you really did have such fearsome critters. And you do. My goodness, I can't believe that we don't hear of Australian spider attacks here. We do get occasional news of shark attacks from the land down under.
Your site is excellent--I learned so much. However, I did not find what Brittany referred to as a hunter spider. She said their body is an inch in size but that they are harmless. Could you direct me to where I might learn about the hunter
spider?
I am now 43 years old, but I remember one of my favourite school projects when I was in Mr Pepper's Grade 6: we took black sheets of construction paper and gently placed them behind a cobweb so it would adhere. This was for an art class, not science and the captured webs were incredibly pretty.
Thank you for any help you could give me in tracking down the hunter spider.

My name is laurie and I live just an hour north of beautifull san diego california. I have met a wonderfull man named cary who lives in austalia and my 2 and 4 yr old children and I are moving to australia in april. I have been firghtened of spiders and some snakes all my life. I am 38 years old, so that is alot of years to worry about spiders. I have been told you have many spiders and snakes in australia and even quite large ones. Even ants big enough to see their body size. Our ants are so small you can squish a 1/2 dozen or so under one finger tip. Well, back to the spiders, they scare me the most. They also have a creepy look to them. I want to face my fears so I decided to learn more about them. If your teacher can do it, then so can I :o) I have already learned so much from my readings of the many studies and articles written by all the wonderfull 5 graders there :o) I really don't want to fear these amazing creatures and would like to look at them in a new light ;o) if you have any suggestions or info for me, I would love to have you write me back. Thanks for the information you all have provided :o)
