Comments: I'm looking for a spider I saw on T.V. it isn't in this country,
it lives in the desert and golden is in it's name. This spider kartwheels
down the dunes in escape from the wasp at speeds up to I think 50mph or so
and actually makes a sand roost as it flies down the dune. Can you help me
locate?

Comments: why would you keep a poor little spider in a jar =(
Reply: Because the ones we kept in a jar were
fine in the jar for study purposes. They do not need a lot of room to live
in and were quite happy being fed regularly. They were also not ones that
you would leave loose around children as the redback can give a nasty bite.
In fact last year, we didn't even keep any live ones as we had a girl in the
class with allergies and didn't want to take any chances with her health!!

Comments: Let me first say that your site scares the hell out of me. Let's
just say that now I will never go to Australia!! haha I have a weird
fascination with spiders. I am
fascinated that such a small creature can scare me so much. I love
photographing spiders, but after a too close of an encounter with a jumping
spider I am investing in a telescopic lens!! My parents live in the woods,
and I love visiting them during the summer because there is always a
plethora of spiders just waiting to jump on me, slowly descend onto my head,
hide in my shoes...etc. I have been browsing the net extensively and your
site has definitely been the best. Some sites are just so limited, while
others are just filled with junk. But your site has helped me identify so
many of my
pictures. Thanks!

Found: Just looking for web sites on Australian spiders
Phrase: Great!
Comments: I came to Australia from the UK 2 years ago and live in the Blue
Mountains. Our garden, which is a bush garden, has many spiders burrows
lined with silk. The spiders in them are big and from my spider book and
what I've gleened from the internet I'm sure they are trapdoor spiders
although there are no actual trapdoors. They have black to brownish shiny
legs with more or less the same coloured body which is not shiny. I'm really
fascinated by them and would never dream of killing them as my Australian
partner would have me do. Needless to say I keep their locations a secret.
Love your site.

Comments: A comment in reply to Danielle ... I have 2 young children
who have been taught from a young age NEVER to touch spiders and to get an
adult if they sees one ... all parents need to teach their children this;
especially in our country! This web site has ample warnings re. children and
live spiders; did you actually read the words or only look at the pictures?

Phrase: What is your problem?
Comments: It is not a smart idea to let CHILDREN in year 5 play around with
dangerous spiders. Spdiers ARE NOT a toy everyone. If one of those kids got
bitten and did not tell anyone what would of happened? They would not of
gone to hospital to get the antivenom. Thoes kids are not in the wrong it is
the adults that are letting the kids play with them.
PLEASE NOTE THAT AT NO TIME ARE
CHILDREN ALLOWED TO HANDLE LIVE SPIDERS AND ARE TAUGHT NOT TO TOUCH ANY
SPIDERS, AS ALL CAN BITE. ALL LIVE SPIDERS KEPT IN THE ROOM ARE IN SEALED
CONTAINERS AND ARE ONLY FED BY THE TEACHER.

Comments: I found a colony of Jewel or Christmas spiders(austracantha minax
I believe) in my garden. They caught my eye because they are very
attractive little spiders and weave a complex set of interconnecting webs.
Thanks for you site and keeping the interest in arachnids.
