Comments: I am terrified of spiders of any kind but I could not stop
reading. Thankfully we do not have any highly dangerous spiders here
other than occasionally hearing of
black widows. Thanks for the great reading and pictures, you should all
be very proud of your work. It was really terrific.

Comments: I received a Brown Recluse bite on my upper right thigh about
2 1/2 weeks ago - classic of the pictures on your site. Went to the Dr.
within the first 24 hours, but they thought it was a non-poisonous bite,
as after exploration no venom pocket could be found. The next day was
sent by the Dr. directly to the ER with a "don't be surprised if they
admit you for the weekend for IV antibiotics" statement. It was the pain
that drove me to seek treatment, and I'm certainly glad I did. So far
there have been 5 doctor visits, 2 ER visits, 2 courses of antibiotics,
one time of the bite being lanced (possibly another to come) and weekly
follow-up visits. I have a 1" (so far) area of totally dead tissue and
some further necrosis still occurring. I hope that SOON this will all be
over with. It has definitely been the most painful experience of my
life!! I live on the coast of
Northern California (Fort Bragg), and I, like many others who live over
here, didn't think that the Brown Recluse lived up here. Well, let me
tell you, I have been rudely awakened to the fact that they ARE here,
and in larger numbers than you would believe. Thanks for all of the
information on the creepy crawly little suckers (from a TRUE
arachnophobic). Next time, I hope that I get a chance to kill it first -
I would have killed the first time if it had come out during the day
instead of attacking me in my sleep!! Thanks again, and I'm sure I'll be
revisiting this site for more
information. Please let me know of other Northern CA cases, as we need
to get the word out that they ARE here and we need to take precautions
(I, personally, could do without all of the creepy-crawly 8-legged thing
pictures, though, even though they were VERY helpful!!) Thanks, and have
a GREAT DAY!!
