Found: search for info on hobo spider bites
Phrase:  Fantastic!
Comments:  Thanks for the information. Our NW states have new poisonous spider, the hobo. It arrived in the 1960's.  Its bite causes localized redness, swelling, liquifacation,
necrosis, itching, etc. I have been bitten three times on Sunday while cleaning out ivy and underbrush in my garden.  While I did not see the spiders, I have seen them in our basement and in our garden. I did not feel the bites at the time, but I found them later at bedtime.

Until this spider turned up, the NW USA was one of the mildest places in the world for toxic insects. A luxury I enjoyed in childhood. The only animal that could cause serious harm was also the mildest, gentlest, and calmest.  Taricha granulosa, a rough skinned newt, is capable of
secreting a neurotoxin that can paralyze a human arm in seconds. My Prof of Biology picked up a newt I was carrying on my shoulder while I cleaned its pen. His arm was paralyzed
in seconds. The newt did not harm me. That might be because the Prof drew blood from the animal as part of his study, and I did not. This animal has only caused death when hunters put
one in the coffee as a practical joke. Ingesting the neurotoxin proved fatal.

Personally, the rough skinned newt is one of my favorite animals. They are chocolate brown with an orange belly that they display as a warning. Their skin is soft like crepe fabric. They are calm, and they don't mind being handled gently. As a child, I swam and played with hundreds of newts. I hope you enjoy hearing about our animal and spider.

Sincerely,
Julia Vea

Comments: Wow, I have never seen a more better site about spiders. It`s interesting to read about spiders from other countries. Here in Denmark we don`t have venomous spiders that are venomous enough to kill or paralyse a human. I became interested in spiders when i saw Eight Legged Freaks. Then I later walked out in the nature and started studing spiders. I think they are fascinating animals. But I have also being sitting in the front of the computer(trying to find knowledge). And then when I saw this site I thought I was dreaming. I fell in love with this site. This is the best spider site I k`now.

Comments: Just wanted to tell you that the picture that "Deborah" sent in on May 13, 2003 on the Unidentified Spiders page is of a Brown Recluse spider. I have done a lot of research on these spiders and recognized it right away. Please ask her to not go near it! I also noted that she lived in an
apartment complex. Please ask her to inform her landlord or super of the spider because there may be more similar to it and they are extremely dangerous if tampered with(ie. maintenence men, weather, etc.) I believe it is male, but I cannot tell clearly enough by the picture. There is still a high risk of it breeding and multipying, which is NOT A GOOD THING! Thankyou so much. Love the site.

Comments: I was searching for spider information because the carport that I park my car in has a lot of spiders in it.  Some of the spiders were spinning webs onto my car which was bothering me until I watched them and saw that they were spinning a web to catch dinner. They take most of the web with them when they go so I really can't be mad at them. I have always been afraid of spiders so to help me feel a little more comfortable with them I have started giving the ones in the carport names. I found your web page very helpful to me as I am trying to understand these "terrifying" creatures that inhabit my carport. Well done to all who have worked on this site.

I was interested when I see that they were breeding red backs in london zoo is it possible they could escape if so what should I do. hope to hear from you.
