am not afraid of them but avoid the dangerous ones like Redbacks and Whitetails. I love Huntsmans. A comment about the Trapdoors. In NZ at least the ones I saw years ago were black not brown. They were inside the tunnels that had a door at the top. I have an idea that they may vary in colour depending on the location. This was the Nelson area in the South Island.

Comments:  Late August, early September me and a friend were out fishing at a local pond when
we found 3 or 4 large spiderwebs. The spiders looked like the Golden Orb Spider pictures found
on this page. They were less than 3 inches in overall size, still I consider them the largest
spiders I've seen in Ohio. Black and yellow in color with large webs. They built there webs
about 4 feet from the shore. They hung from their webs upside right and had caught several
different insects mostly large butterflies.
