Comments: My wife and I were clearing a wooden ramp, that was here for a
disabled dog, leading from the backyard door, when we came across a Black
Widow! We are from New Orleans, and are here for the time being as we
evacuated from Hurricane Katrina. I have never seen one up close like that.
We sprayed it, and saved it in a baggie.. I suppose we will be very careful
from now on. It's obvious to me that ,since this is a rural area, we are
likely to encounter such species of dangerous spiders.

other web sites I looked at only focused on the wolf, brown recluse and
black widow, even the mayo clinic. But yours gave a lot of information on
the little know spiders, Thanks

Comments: i have a pretty good size spider that i've been trying to capture
all summer with no success. I've come to the conclusion that it's either a
brown recluse or some type of huntsman. The sucker is incredibly fast and
when it's not moving it extends it's legs straight out to the sides. it has
no strips or markings on it. it's a light brown color with an off white
underside. If i can send a picture of it I will! My bio teacher offered
extra credit if i can catch it. I know brown recluse is very rare in
Wisconsin, but it's
closest looking kind i've found...

Comments: I love your website! I have not seen any other site that
has so many cool photos sent in by people. I've been able to
successfully identify a lot of spiders that I
find using your site. However, I do have a recommendation. I do
not see a search engine on your website. I think this would make it
easier to find specific spiders quickly. I like how the website is
categorized into different families of spiders, but I'd like to see even
more. Maybe one for Sac Spiders? To be able to see so many photos
for a certain species is truly remarkable! Keep up the good work!

Comments: I was bitten by a Black House Spider behind the right ear. I
reached uder a broad leafed plant and the spider came down from a leaf just
above my head and bit. An ice pack helped a little but gave me a brain
freeze. The hospital was able to identify the spider and treat the symptoms
OK. The bite caused headaches, dizziness, stiff neck, earache and tingling
in the ear (affecting hearing slightly). With "Panadene Forte" the symptoms
only lasted for a few hours but the affects are still lingering. After two
days I
still have a small amount of swelling and a slight ulceration in the wound
area. Still feeling a little light headed but love the attention I'm
getting.

my husband told me to
kill it! I havn't yet. I believe it's a spider but not for sure. Don't know
what else it could be. It's about a half inch long, completley red (almost
the color of red licorice) with a white and brown design on it's back. We
lve in northern Texas if my location helps. Please contact me with any info
you can. Thanks!

Comments: ID'd the shamrock orb weaver in my garden. Spiders
really give me the willies but am trying to be less of a wimp for my kids'
sake. This chubby girl spider in my clematis vine has captivated me: she's
actually pretty with her beige body and
striped legs! We go gently hunting for her to see where she's sleeping. She
has a kind of 'web funnel' way deep in the plant and has lots of 'chow'
caught in her lovely web. Even though some of the other spiders still gave
me the willies, I at least can appreciate our little orb weaver more having
checked out your site. Thanks.
