Comments:  This is a great site. My son is afraid of spiders and I was looking for an informative and hopefully unscary site for him. This site fits the bill except for the tidbit about the wolf spider's bite causing a person to lose their arm in 7 years. That was a little disturbing. Any statistics on how often this has happened? Are wolf spiders common in Missouri? I also had someone tell me that unknownst to us we swallow spiders in our sleep because the spiders are attracted to warm, moist places. Is there any truth to this?

I did not get a picture of the spider I found in my flower garden but I know what it looked like and I couldn't find a picture of it,but I can describe it. It was black and hairy, it was about 3 inches long(leg tip to leg tip) I have never seen one like it around here before (southeast Kentucky) It looked like a tranchelea. DO you know? The spider I seen had been eating another spider aout like it. It was hard to tell ,not much was left. I've searched
everywhere, please help me. This is driving me nuts. Thank you!

Comments: This site is really interesting. I do have a question, we have a spider living on our office window (7 floors up) it is large to me as for an average spider and I don't have a picture but we were wondering if you might be able to help us decide what it might be. It is about penny size, it's body is larger than it's head by quite a bit the body is brown but the weird part to me is there are 4 indents in it. The spider's legs are striped like a tiger similar colouring too. That's about all I am able to give you for now.... any questions  feel free to email me, if not an email with a possible solution would be cool. I wasn't able to find it on this great site!
Thanks,
Sarah

Comments: Although still abit wary of our little 8-legged friends, I have developed a deep sense of appreciation and wonder for them. I have had a beautiful St. Andrews Cross garden spider outside my window for a couple of weeks. I watch her spin her beautiful web each night and have watched her grow! Either she has been eating VERY well or is ready to lay eggs. It's that time of year. Well, 2 days ago she looked much smaller and very frail. Then, she was gone. But I found her egg sac. I checked your website along with a couple of others to gain more
information about this spider. Thank you for making it so easy and so enjoyable.

Comments: Hey, you guys helped me identify the spider I found oustide my house in Atlanta, GA... it was a St. Andrew's Cross Spider, and since I've found several more. I've found another spider, and haven't been able to find it anywhere online... it has a black body, black legs and little red hairs on the legs. It has an abdomen shaped like that of a black widown (but it's not a black widow) the legs are very hairy, it builds a circular type web, and was very active at night. It built it's web under a light, there are 3 or 4 of them. If anyone has any idea what
kind of spider this is, please let me know by e-mailing me or I can send you a picture if you want...

Comments: We found a Brazilian Wandering Spider in our family grocery store. It crawled out of a box of bananas from Guatemala in the summer here, so it lived. We caught it in a deli cup and later found out what it was, courtesy of some veterinarians that got together over the spider. I have an actual live photo of it! Luckily it was lethargic from the banana gas and harmed no one. Goes to show you how you must always be careful no matter where you live!

Comments: I was surfing the web looking for information on a most unusual spider in my garden, in Chateauguay, Quebec, Canada. She's the most unusual spider - and I thought she was poisonous because of her most remarkable colourings. Her web has a unique zig-zag pattern down the center. To my amazement, she was the very first photo in your photo gallery. I believe she is a St. Andrew's Cross!! I looked up more information and was relieved to find out she is not poisonous! We had one about 7 years ago and she was so huge and colourful that we videotaped
her. Now, we have another much younger one in the front.
Thanks for the info!!

I did have a spider bite me in the hand a couple of weeks ago and I had to actually pull it off of me. I guess I should use gloves to garden but like the feel of the soil. My pictures did not turn out so if there is any info. I would love to have any thoughts or ideas. She did not build her web like a St. Andrews Cross nor place her legs like one. I would love to get an idea of what variety she is.
