Comments:  I live in Southern CA, and there is this bright red spider that keeps spinning a web, right outside of my front door. I run into it every morning, and this morning, the spider was right in the middle of it, and it got caught on me. I did manage to get it off of me, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who could help me identify it. I don't want to kill it, but I don't want anyone in my family to be in any danger. It looks about the size of a
black widow, and the body shape of a black widow, but it is bright red. Any suggestions?

Comments: It's not really that it stinks, I just didn't get the help I was looking for. I need help! I am not exaggerating when I say that I am being overrun by spiders. They are multiplying and spreading into every nook and cranny of my house. They are becoming more aggressive every day and even attack me when I walk out my back door. I have been bitten several times and have sprayed them and they don't die. Some of them are enormous. They have sturdy legs and are very strong. Gravity has no effect on them and they look dark brown with white or gray on their backs. I never get close enough to them to get a 100% description because of their
aggressiveness. I used to like spiders, but now I am terrified of them.

Comments: Thanks so much for publishing this information! This morning my son and I found a Black & Yellow Argiope in our front yard. He was afraid of it, but I thought it was the most awesome spider I had ever seen! Interesting that you're reporting a  rash of sightings as I had never in my life seen as big or as beautiful a spider before! I wonder what it means!!! Our Argiope had beautiful yellow markings against striking black body and legs. There was a verticle zigzag down the center of his/her web. On my way home from dropping my son off from school, I stopped again and as soon as I sighted this fascinating spider, it leapt across the web and caught an insect I hadn't even seen and had it wrapped up and transported back to the center of the web before I even had a chance to see what it was!
